Wood County, WI (September 1, 2024) – A man is dead, and a driver in custody Sunday morning, after a crash in Wood County.

It happened on Strawberry Lane in the township of Biron late on Saturday night, August 31, around 11:50 p.m. Police say a vehicle was traveling northbound on South Biron Drive, crossed the centerline, and hit a motorcycle. Life saving measures were attempted at the scene on the motorcycle driver but were unsuccessful.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested at the scene, but a passenger fled the vehicle. They were located a short time later in Plover. The driver was suspected of driving under the influence and was therefore arrested.

Authorities say they'll release the victim's name once his family has been notified. However, the crash is under investigation, and police are not releasing further information at this time. Witnesses were asked to get in touch with troopers from the Wisconsin State Patrol.
