The Governors Highway Safety Association reported that Wisconsin was among those states where there was an increase in pedestrian fatalities during the first six months of the pandemic. By the start of 2024, our state had seen steady year-over-year increases continue, despite the official end of the pandemic.
Put simply, drivers and pedestrians alike in our state must exercise caution at all times. After all, pedestrian injuries are often quite serious and require several months or even years to heal. And a pedestrian can sustain these severe injuries in a number of ways, including but not limited to a driver's failure to yield at an intersection and beyond.
While pedestrians may lower their chances of being involved in these accidents by stringently following traffic regulations and crossing properly at crosswalks, motorists bear much of the burden for preventing these incidents. Unfortunately, when drivers are careless, pedestrians bear the brunt of the risk that comes with being involved in collisions.
Tragically, a pedestrian collision may cause minor or major injuries, such as bruising, fractures, traumatic brain injuries, mental stress, soft tissue damage, or it can cause major physical wounds and long-term impairment. However, in the event that a negligent person causes a pedestrian accident injuring you or someone you know, you may be able to seek just compensation.
