Milwaukee, WI (November 14, 2024) – According to officers with the Milwaukee Police Department, a vehicle struck and killed a two-year-old child on the northwest side of Milwaukee on Wednesday, November 13.

Milwaukee police responded just before 12:30 p.m. to North 60th and West Hustis Streets in the Wyrick Park neighborhood, just south of West Good Hope Road. Milwaukee PD officers added that the child was hit along North 60th Street, outside of a school zone.

The child suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital by Milwaukee Fire Department paramedics, but died from his injuries. Per officers, the suspicious driver, a 41-year-old man, was apprehended after remaining at the site. Officials said prosecutors will be consulted regarding criminal proceedings. However, an investigation is still ongoing at this time, and no further details have been released.

Our deepest condolences go out to the deceased child's family members.

Pedestrian Accidents in Wisconsin

Wisconsin was one of the states in which pedestrian fatalities increased during the first six months of the pandemic, according to the Governors Highway Safety Association. Despite the official conclusion of the pandemic, our state had continued to experience consistent year-over-year growth in these deaths by the beginning of 2024.

In other words, it is imperative that both pedestrians and vehicles in our state exercise caution at all times. In the end, pedestrian injuries are frequently severe and necessitate several months or even years to recover. And a pedestrian can sustain these severe injuries in a number of ways, including but not limited to a driver's failure to yield at an intersection, motorists backing into pedestrians while reversing out of a driveway or parking space, ignoring a school bus's stop sign or failing to stop and yield when approaching a separately marked crosswalk.

While pedestrians may lower their chances of being involved in these accidents by stringently following traffic regulations and crossing properly at crosswalks, motorists bear much of the burden for preventing these incidents. Unfortunately, when drivers are careless, pedestrians bear the brunt of the risk that comes with being involved in collisions.

Tragically, a pedestrian collision may cause minor or major injuries, such as bruising, fractures, traumatic brain injuries, mental stress, soft tissue damage, or it can cause major physical wounds and long-term impairment. However, in the event that a negligent person causes a pedestrian accident injuring you or someone you know, you may be able to seek just compensation.
