St. Francis, WI - Man on Moped Hit & Harmed on E Layton Ave

St. Francis, WI (September 6, 2024) – A man was transported to the hospital and is in serious condition after a vehicle reportedly ran a red light and crashed into a moped in southeast Wisconsin on Tuesday morning, September 3.

According to their latest press release, officers from the St. Francis Police Department responded to the intersection of East Layton Avenue and South Whitnall Avenue for a report of a car and moped crash with injuries. A preliminary investigation revealed a vehicle driven by a 49-year-old man from Chicago was traveling west on East Layton Avenue, approaching the intersection at South Whitnall Avenue. A 64-year-old Cudahy man operating a moped was attempting to make a right turn from the Whitnall Square shopping center onto East Layton Avenue when the vehicle collided with him.

At this time, the St. Francis Police Department says it appears the driver of the vehicle ignored a red traffic light. The 64-year-old man suffered significant injuries from the crash and was transported to a nearby hospital in serious condition. The 49-year-old man was not injured and stayed on the scene, and police added that he is cooperating with investigators. Though no additional information was disclosed, an investigation is still ongoing in the meantime.

Our thoughts are with the injured man and his loved ones. We hope for his full recovery.
